Halogen Fountain Bulbs Are Becoming Phased Out

SOLitude Va Beach office fountain with LED bulbs
In support of Earth Day (April 22, 2013) and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 legislation phasing out the use of inefficient incandescent light bulbs to bulbs that require 25 percent less energy, SOLitude Lake Management will no longer offer 75 watt halogen fountain replacement bulbs to their clients.  SOLitude will now offer clients, who currently have 75 watt bulbs or similar flood light style bulbs in their fountains, a light emitting diode (LED) bulb that will increase energy savings by 85-95% per installed bulb.

LED bulbs generally last 50,000 hours or up to 25 times longer than the traditional halogen bulbs they replace. Under normal conditions, these new LED bulbs will produce better light, while not needing to be replaced for several years. Traditional halogen bulbs that are currently found in most fountain lighting systems require replacement an average of 2 times per year. With these new LED replacement bulbs, clients will see their annual costs for light bulb replacements remain the same for the first year, but will save significantly in every subsequent year as the cost of replacement bulbs and the labor to replace them will be wiped away. Additionally, the cost of electricity to run these lights will be 85-95% less than it is with the traditional halogen bulbs that our clients have been accustomed to paying for in the past.

In addition to replacing halogen fountain bulbs with LED bulbs, SOLitude recommends the following to further increase cost savings and reduce the usage of natural resources:
· Replace all household, office and other bulbs with LED bulbs where appropriate
· Reduce use of “throw away” plastic bottles and adopt a reusable cup, water bottle or LIFESAVER bottle!
· Recycle, re-purpose and reuse paper, aluminum, glass, cardboard and plastic
· Plant trees to help clean the air and replenish our forests
· Plant beneficial, native plants in your landscape and around water to help filter pollutants from stormwater runoff
· Always vegetate “bare areas” and repair areas of erosion to prevent the flow of sediment into our waterways

“At SOLitude, we greatly appreciate the value of every little step towards being environmentally conscientious,” said Tracy King, Director of Marketing and The SOLution.
